Burlington (ON) - PGA Tour Latino America Member Raoul Menard of Ange-Gardien (QC) gained much confidence after his performance this week at the Southern Ontario Open. His four round total of 63-68-66-63=260 -24 was good enough for a one shot victory over Jake Scott of Strongsville (OH). Scott started the fourth round as the 54 hole leader after posting three consecutive 64's but was out played in the end by Menard... On the par 5 14th hole, Scott made an unlikely birdie after having to chip back into play left handed after driving it against a boundary fence. He hit a mid iron to the middle of the green a made a slick 25 foot putt for birdie that gave him a one shot lead.
The turning point came on the par 4 16th hole when Menard hit his approach shot into the back bunker and proceeded to make an unlikely up and in for par. Menard went on to birdie the final two holes and stayed ahead of Scott by one shot. Beon Yeong Lee of Montreal (QC) finished in solo 3rd at 17 under par for the tournament. Low Amateur was Joey Kremer of North York (ON) who finished in a tie for 15th at 5 under par. For the victory, Raoul Menard received $8,000CDN and a trip to Bermuda to compete in the $75,000 Grey Goose World Par 3 Championship. "This is big for me." Said Menard after his win. "When you can shoot that well over 72 holes, it goes along way for your confidence. This is a great event and the condition of the course was perfect." To view final results please visit HERE
